CovaU vs GloBird
What each sells your home, priced as a year’s gas bill
Priced for a typical 2-person home in VIC (50,460 MJ a year), at Melbourne 3000 on Australian Gas Networks’ network.
GloBird’s cheapest plan costs $156 less a year than CovaU’s for this home.
Supply and usage with GST, less guaranteed discounts, plus any membership fee, for a year walked day by day through each season. A sign-up credit counts in the first year only; a pay-on-time discount is shown below but not counted.
A year’s gas bill at every amount of use
Each retailer’s cheapest plan at every amount of gas from 5,000 to 80,000 MJ a year, spread over the year by the season as the state’s homes use it; the dashed line is this home. Where the lines cross, the cheaper retailer changes: a low supply charge leads for a light user, a low price a megajoule for a home that heats with gas.
As of 29 October 2026, for a typical two-person home in Melbourne 3000 on Australian Gas Networks’ network using 50,460 MJ of gas a year, CovaU’s cheapest is Super Saver Gas at $1,584 a year, and GloBird’s cheapest is GloBird FULLHOUSE at $1,428 a year. Plans as each retailer files them with the Australian Energy Regulator, read nightly; prices include GST. Plans sold only through comparison sites, to members or to existing customers are left out, as are plans for homes with solar and home businesses; a plan sold only with the retailer’s electricity is priced on the gas alone, and only when you’d move your electricity too. Each row says which figure is lower; there’s no overall score. Confirm the plan’s Basic Plan Information Document with the retailer before you switch.
