What a million earns at today’s rates, and where balance caps cut in.
For a balance past one account’s cap: the accounts that together pay most on it.
Savings interest is worked out each month at a twelfth of the yearly rate on the balance, and added to it; then the month’s deposit lands. A picked savings account’s balance tiers are walked as it pays them, with its monthly conditions assumed met; a rate you type is applied to every dollar. An ETF grows at the monthly rate that compounds to the yearly return, a steady average no fund delivers year to year. Tax isn’t taken off. As of 7 November 2026, $50,000 earns $3,084 in a year with interest paid monthly at the savings account paying most on that balance that any adult can open on BankMate, ING Savings Maximiser at 6.00%, with its monthly conditions met.
